In the United States, the ultrasonic scalpel machine was approved by the FDA for brow lift in 2009 and for lifting loose chin and neck skin in 2012. It can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis of the armpits, according to the instructions for Ultrasound.
The use of ultrasonic scalpel machine alone can only improve mild to moderate wrinkles and sagging skin, which is suitable for young patients. However, there are many factors that cause skin aging, not only the reduction and abnormality of collagen and elastin. For example, facial aging like the “inverted triangle” is caused by changes in bone remodeling and fat redistribution in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. In order to achieve more satisfactory results, ultrasonic scalpel is often combined with other cosmetic methods. In combination therapy, ultrasonic scalpel should be used after laser treatment to avoid serious side effects caused by increased laser absorption, but interference with the treatment level should be avoided before filling. Skin laxity, wrinkles and aging are not limited to the head and neck. Although it is not yet listed in the FDA-approved indications, Ultrasound appears to have a good effect on improving laxity in other parts of the body. Ultrasound scalpel is used to improve localized skin laxity caused by mild to moderate cellulite on the buttocks and outer thighs. The parameter is set to 4.5mm (4.5mhz) + 3.0mm (7MHz) dual-mode processing. After 90 days of treatment, the patient’s body-q score increased by 23.8 points (P<0.01), indicating that the patient’s satisfaction and acceptance of the body were significantly improved. Although the current placement depth of the ultrasonic scalpel was shallower than the abdominal dermal thickness, the mean waist circumference decreased by 2.59 cm in patients with a reproductive history after 6 months of treatment (P<0.01).
